Flower Moon, May 7, 2020

The Rule: Take a vertical format photo; paint a 12x9
watercolor.

35 12x9” watercolor paintings with ink, graphite and charcoal.

The woods in May are full of spring ephemerals, flowers that take advantage of the sunlight reaching the ground before trees are in leaf. This was a period of excitement and discovery for me, as I followed the progression of blooming wildflowers. May is also a time of migrating birds, and I was delighted to see a scarlet tanager twice, and numerous migrating warblers. I spent many hours at the Nature Center, and took so many photos that I painted more than one painting for each hour. For this reason, there are 35 views of the Flower Moon.
The Flower Moon earned its name because it truly is the time of flowers.
